Please Note - Website Illegally Soliciting Funds
Published: Fri, Feb 17, 2017, 01:29PM CST

It has been brought to our attention that there is a website illegally requesting donations for many organizations including CMS North PTO; along with other CISD schools and Booster Clubs.
The organization is called GiveClub.com and we have sent them a certified letter requesting our organization be removed from their site.
Please be aware that CMS North PTO does not use this website or any other outside organization to request donations for the school.

Reminder: Spine Screenings Next Week
Published: Fri, Feb 10, 2017, 12:08PM CST

Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th grade students:

As mandated by the State of Texas, all learners who are in 8th grade are to be screened for curves of the spine that can appear during the years of rapid growth usually between the ages of 10 and 16. Two kinds of curves we screen for are Scoliosis (a sideways curve) and Kyphosis (a round back). Many cases of curvature of the spine are mild and require only ongoing observation by a physician. Others can worsen with time as the child grows and require active treatment such as bracing and/or surgery. Early treatment can prevent the development of a severe deformity which can affect a person’s appearance and health.
The spine screenings are performed at school by school nurses in the district who have been specially trained. The procedure is simple. Boys and girls are screened separately. At CMS North, the screenings are scheduled to take place on Wednesday February 15th and Thursday February 16th.

Parents will be notified of the results of the screening ONLY if professional follow-up is necessary. This screening procedure does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups.

As mentioned above, this screening is according to Texas law. If you do not wish to have your child screened at school, please send a letter to the clinic before the scheduled screening dates stating that you will have your child screened by his or her own physician. Screenings must take place prior to the end of the 2016/17 school year.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in the clinic at 214-496-7122 if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Faulkner, BSN, RN
Joyce Alcorn, BSN, RN, NCSN

Student Program
Published: Fri, Feb 3, 2017, 05:20PM CST

On Monday, February 6th at 2:00 p.m. we will have a PTO Sponsored speaker for all 7th and 8th grade students:
Keith Davis is a former NFL player and his resounding message to students is that with effort, a focus on education and the excellence they already possess, they too can be champions. He also expresses the importance of being a world-class person, and emphasizes that it takes more strength and courage to lift someone up than to put them down. Students are challenged to make visionary choices, with an end result of becoming forward thinking, lifelong learners.

Can You Help?
Published: Sun, Jan 8, 2017, 09:41AM CST

North continues to recycle in our cafeteria! It is going so well, keeping items out of the landfill and recycled into new things.

Thank you to the students for doing such a great job in separating the recycling from the trash. And thank you to the parents who have volunteered their time at each lunch period!

We need LOTS of parent support as we return to school. We hope you had a great holiday break, and now we will be getting back into the swing of things! Parents help by assisting at any one Recycle Station, which consist of a recycle bin and trash bin. It takes less than 15 minutes (during the end of the lunch period)!
