CISD is offering parents of 7th graders the opportunity to have their children participate in a wellness check-up called TeenScreen. Teen Screen is a nationally-recognized program developed by Columbia University to identify risk factors associated with depression, anxiety, and alcohol and substance abuse. The program is free and completely voluntary and confidential.

Please join us for an informational parent meeting explaining how TeenScreen is used to identify students who may be in need of mental health support.
When: Wednesday, October 4 at 6:30 PM
Where: Coppell High School Arena

Speakers:
Lisa Pederson, Youth Programs Coordinator for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will provide parents with an understanding of the statistics about youth and mental illness and the importance of addressing concerns early.

Jennifer Huynh, Director of the Teens Can Survive Program, at the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas will be sharing the history and procedures of TeenScreen and how TeenScreen is used to identify students who may be in need of mental health support. Early identification can help them become well rounded teens and young adults.

Jeff Veley Character Building Program
Published: Mon, Sep 25, 2017, 10:17PM CDT

A huge shout out to our students for an enthusiastic welcome to Jeff Veley to Middle School North! Jeff’s mission is to equip students with the social and emotional skills that empower them to face adversity, grow in resilience, and solve their own social problems.

Jeff’s message reached over 900 students at North. Ask your child about the “Peace Sign Approach”:

1. Don’t Get Upset!
2. Treat them like a friend.

Parents can sign up for Veley’s weekly newsletter. Check out additional ways your child can empower themselves and others around them on his websites:

www.jeffveley.com

The PTO thanks you for your continued support in bringing programs that enrich our students’ experience.

Thank you to parents who were able to attend the Jeff Veley Character Building program last week at the Cozby Library.
