The Book Fair Was a Great Success!

CMSN Families!

On behalf of our wonderful librarians Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Henke, as well as myself, I’d like to thank so many people for making our first book fair of 2017-2018 one of the most successful ones here at North! So many people contributed to this, including several parent volunteers, many students from “The Force,” and of course the countless shoppers!!!

Thanks to so many of you, our library will be receiving a check in the amount of $1,290.76, which will definitely be put to good use.

We still have one more book fair, which will be held next spring, so be sure to keep your eyes open for updates sometime after Spring Break.

Bus Tracking App Now Available and Don't Forget to Renew Your Spring Bus Pass

CISD’s school bus partner, Durham School Services, is launching a phone and web application that will allow parents and guardians to securely track the location of their child(ren)’s bus in relationship to their assigned bus stop and school. The app allows parents and guardians to view multiple stops on an assigned route, including the scheduled arrival time for each stop and arrival at school. This service is free and voluntary.

To download the app on any of your devices, visit www.durhamschoolservices.com/durhambustracker. You will need your child(ren)’s school issued ID number, last name and to select “Coppell, TX” as your location to sign up. For any additional information, please visit www.coppellisd.com/Page/15154.

Also, don’t forget all “Pay to Ride” bus students must have their Pink Spring Bus Pass no later than Tuesday, January 16th in order to continue bus service! Visit www.coppellisd.com/Page/15121for instructions on how to renew.

NOMINATE A CMSN Staff Member to be a Red & Black Superstar!

Red & Black Super Star is a program started by the Coppell Education Foundation to recognize elementary and middle school students and CISD employees.

NEXT SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8TH at 5PM!

  • Middle school parents and students can submit nominations near the end of each 9-week grading period for any CISD staff member on their middle school campus they feel deserves recognition.
  • This could be for going above and beyond for a student or co-worker, ability to inspire, dedication to their profession and/or commitment to mentoring students or colleagues.
  • At the end of each grading period, at every middle school, three CISD employees will be selected from all the nominations to receive a Red & Black Super Star award.
  • Please click here to submit your nomination by the December 8th (5PM) deadline.

Early Release Next Week!

Coppell ISD will have early release for schools prior to the Winter Break. On Thursday, Dec. 14, New Tech High @ Coppell will release at 12:50 p.m. and Coppell High School will release at 1 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 15, Elementary Schools will release at 12:15 pm., Middle Schools will release at 1:45 p.m., and New Tech High @ Coppell will release at 12:50 p.m. and Coppell High School will release at 1 p.m.

North Receives an Education Foundation Grant

On Tuesday, Dec 5, the Coppell ISD Education Foundation surprised CISD teachers that won grant money with balloons and big checks. Coppell Middle School North’s Beth Newman and Kim Politz received $470 for “Hands-On Learning with Osmo.” This grant funds Osmos Wonder Kits and Osmo Pizza Co game. These Osmo add-ons will support instruction within the special education and art classrooms. The students will be able to use the Osmo system to build academic and vocational skills using a blend of hands-on and virtual learning.

We are thrilled that our box top coordinator, Jackie Remidez, sent in almost $300 of box tops to be redeemed for cash for our school!

We are once again collecting Box Tops for North!
Turn your trash into CASH FOR NORTH!

Please clip and send any Box Tops for Education labels that you might have that are included on hundreds of food, household and school supply products. Box tops will be redeemed in the spring!

Just send them to school in a baggie with your student for this easy way to support our campus.

2017-2018 Student Directories Were Distributed Yesterday

Thank you to our PTO Membership Coordinators - Denise Burgos, Deena Martin, Angela Moemeka- who finalized the directory and distributed it to students yesterday with the help of parent volunteers.

There are 10 extra directories for sale in the front office, first come, first serve. Cost is $12. Please send check (made out to CMSN PTO) or cash (EXACT CHANGE ONLY!) with your student if you wish to purchase.

Directory Distribution Volunteers Needed!

We need a few volunteers to distribute about 500 CMSN Directories on Tuesday, November 7th.

We will gather at the Library 9:00-11:00, and make quick work of putting labels on the Directories, then delivering them to the 4th period classes.

If you have even an hour to spare, please help out our committee Co-Chairs, Denise Burgos, to get the 2017-2018 Directories into the hands of our students.

PTO Awards $17, 444.65 in Grant Requests to CMSN

In October, Kelly Shultz and Deann Manchester led a team of board and PTO members in analyzing the grant requests made by CMSN. The committee recommended approving over $17,000 grant requests which will directly impact our teachers and students. PTO members voted to approve the grant recommendations at our October meeting.

A few of the highlights include:

  • Bike racks to replace broken racks and add space for all of the bikes our students ride to school
  • Refillable bottle water fountains
  • TV screen in the main hall for announcements, signage and streaming student productions and media projects
  • Curriculum supplements such as games, books and other instructional materials
  • Wireless Keyboards for language arts classrooms
  • Educational Speaker for 7th grade Texas History Day
  • Materials to support the new 6th grade after school bookclub
  • New walkie talkies for the administration and school safety officer

The teachers are excited to receive their grants and the students will definitely enjoy the benefits of the grants for many years to come!

Coppell Education Foundation Robotics Camp Registration Opens Nov. 1

The Coppell Education Foundation is excited to partner with Verizon to offer our 3rd annual Red & Black Robotics Camp designed for 5th and 6th graders, who will build and program their very own Parallax Boe-Bot Robot to perform a variety of tasks.

  • The two-hour classes will be held on Wednesday nights over 8 weeks, starting Jan. 10, 2018.
  • Registration opens Wednesday, Nov. 1st at 8 a.m. Register early, as there are only 60 spots are available!

iLead - District Invites All Parents to Sign Up

iLead is a six-session leadership training opportunity led by the Coppell ISD Board of Trustees and district leaders. The program is designed to help parents and community members gain insight into the operations of Coppell ISD, learn more about district service opportunities and build capacity for future Board and committee leadership.

  • Attending at least four sessions is required for graduation.
  • The cost of iLead is $40, which helps defray district expenses such as t-shirts, training materials, food, awards, etc. Click here to apply to participate.

District Calendar Update & Request for Input

At its recent meeting, the District Education Improvement Council (DEIC) designated a calendar subcommittee to make recommendations for the district’s next two-year calendar (2018-2019 and 2019-2020.) The calendar subcommittee is set to meet twice before presenting options to the DEIC. The DEIC then will send two calendar options, which will be posted on the Coppell ISD website, to the Board of Trustees for consideration. Don’t forget we welcome your input on the district’s two-year calendar by emailing input@coppellisd.com by Nov. 28.

Write A Check is our CMSN North Major Fundraiser that helps cover everything the PTO does for North Students such as:

  • $6,000 each year for programs such as the one announced this week, the Jeff Veley Character Building Program
  • $4,500 each year for Field Trip buses each year
  • $25,000 or more each year for Gifts to the CMSN
  • In the past gifts has been used to purchase items like technology, specialty furniture, a cover for the outside eating area, the marquee outside the school, curriculum supplements, speciality equipment and technology for elective courses like media.
